95 750sxi - Question on converting to pre-mix
So I am the original owner of a 750sxi and has been an absolute blast and has required almost no service other than standard plugs, carb cleans and adjust etc. Last year, my local shop replaced a steering cable that broke at speed. Really the first service item it has needed. The shop pressure tested the motor and amazingly everything tested fine. So feel like I am pretty lucky up to this point.
My question is ( I think I know the answer), should I pull the oil pump and covert to pre-mix? Last year I checked the oil level and topped off so I know everything is functional, but concerned that pump could go anytime.

I wouldn't. The pumps don't fail; the hoses get brittle with age and split, or they fall off because they are not well secured.
I replace mine with polyurethane hose and secure with stainless steel safety wire.

I have seen pumps fail, and IMO if you do not mind mixing gas / oil it is not a bad idea on any older machine.
Also Strongly recommend removing / blocking off the crank case block drain.

I've only found 3 failed oil pumps in the last 10 years BUT....I just got done rebuilding a whole top end on an 1100 due to a $3 piece of tubing. I run pre-mix on all my personal machines.

Thanks for the comments.. I will inspect / replace the hoses this year and worse case just convert to pre-mix.
