1998 SLX with bad crank bearings, worth fixing?

    Recently i got a email about a 1997 Polaris 650,

The guy said it has a running engine, good hull, But needs a new crank bearing, its been sitting for 3 years. Is it worth fixing?

    Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance, Jason.

    I do not think there was a 650 model in 1997 ?

Last two digits from the HIN number plate on the rear deck are the model year.

Worth it? Depends on the price, and what you are willing to put into it.

How was the crank bearing diagnosed?

UPDATE: He said it was a "1998 slx", He opened the crankcase, and has the engine pulled out of it. I asked for pictures but its at his cottage currently.

All depends on the price and how much effort and money you are willing to put into the machine.

I would assume the entire engine needs rebuild including the crankshaft. Three years sitting around with the crank out of the engine means rust is likely in the 'good' bearings. Bad crank main bearings require the crank shaft be pulled apart for a full rebuild anyways.

The SLX is a fun 2 seater hull, rides best with just one person.

You also need to figure out if he has the model year correct. The 95 and 96 were the blue Fuji 780 motor. The 98 and 99 were a red 1050 and the 2000 and 2001 were the 1200 motor.

I could be way off here but the only 1998 SLX I know of is the Pro 785, the 99 would be an SLXH 1050(red engine)

    SLXH is a 98 not a 99.
