Picked up a new 2014 Ram 1500 Laramine

Just picked up this new 2014 Ram 1500 Laramine with the 5.7L engine. Any tips/ things to know about the truck? This is my first Ram truck, but I have owned a Chrysler 300 with the 5.7 before.

I just turned 191,000 on my 07 Ram today. Bought it new in 07. Its a great engine. Changing 16 spark plugs is a bitch though.

I think you will be happy with the truck. I have heard they ride great with the coil spring rear suspension.

My next one is going to be the 3.0 liter diesel.

We have a 2012 Hemi Big Horn. Over 168,000 miles on it and the "problems" have been quite minor. We have replaced the idler pulley twice; seems like they go out every 65,000 miles. Had to replace the cruise control steering wheel buttons. Replaced a speaker, but I think the problem was actually the satellite communications system required by the company that blew it out. Getting the shocks changed this week for the first time. Brakes still look good; mostly highway miles.

We did increase our fuel mileage by one mpg by changing to synthetic oil. And since we would be replacing the air filter so often, we opted to go with an AirAid non-oiling filter. With the rebate it ended up saving us a few dollars, but no change in performance except for the sound: It sounds like you're opening a 4-barrel when you "put your foot in it."

I am about to inherit this truck from my wife as her 2015 Laramie EcoDiesel with 6'4" bed and RamBoxes with 4-corner air ride may be at the dealership already. All I know for sure is that it is in Louisiana.

Really the only improvement I can think of for the 2012 would be to shove an 8-speed into it. It's been very dependable and still looks brand new inside and out. Still rides better than my mom's Lincoln MkZ. Averaging 19-20 mpg, most of it on US Highway 90 between Lafayette and Raceland. Oh, and she just reminded me that our mileage may be slightly worse due to the light bar (wrecker style for escorting oversize loads) sticks above the roof a little too much. It's mounted to the headache rack.

I have been using Amsoil XL 5W-20 in mine since day one. 191,000 miles and probably 170,000 of them have been towing some sort of a trailer.

Only real issue I had with mine was a wire harness rubbed through and killed the electronic throttle body. Otherwise just basic wear items replaced.

I just tuned it up good last week. Spark plugs, O2 sensors, PCV valve, air cleaner.

Make sure you put it in "PARK" and not turn on the AC with that horrible shift knob thing...Took me about 3 weeks to get use to that shift knob versus a stalk.... Got out of the truck a few times and wondered why it was rolling still..LOL

Maybe we need to start a Ram thread for all of the Greenhulk Ram owners.
