Thread: New grate?

    New grate?

What exactly does an upgraded intake grate do? I have a GTR all stock and don't really plan on doing mods, but I have heard a lot of people upgrading their ride plates (which I don't know what that does) and their intake grate??

Not 100% sure on the ride plate, I have a Rxp with a lot of mods so I would like to know the best ride plate for my 2005 Rxp. But the intake grate is where the water goes in to ur prop an pump, you want more waterr to go in there for more performance. So for my ski I got the "top loader intake grate" it basically forces a lot more water into my pump then the stock one. More water being forced to the pump, the faster an better. Hope I helped out a little

Where did you source your top loader intake grate and what was the difference like over stock?

All the grates characteristics vary, Worx grates generally have excellent hole shot, have awesome hook up in rough condition but top speed on flat water you will be worse off, for a 2004-2007 rxp I found the Riva grate to be the best overall performer, great hook up and 2mph gain over stock

To answer the first question after market grates have different wing designs which inhance the flow of water into your jet pump keeping it loaded which creates less cavitation and improved take off, better handling and increased top speeds. As stated in my previous post they all have different characteristics. For the GTR I believe the only option is a Worx intake grate which I'm current using, I found it hooks up much better in smooth and rough conditions however I feel like it's a little slower than stock.

Hey Quiddo, I see you have riva sponsons. Do you notice a difference in them over stock? I feel if there is a mod for more control or turning, that would be it.

You can have the angle of your ride plate modified to get the bow up
more, from what I'm hearing it's good for an extra 2mph and if you go open loop 3-4mph.
Riva sponsons are phenomenal, night an day better than stock however a pain to install as you have to re drill holes as they don't line up and you will have to purchase backing plates separately. Worx racing offer a complete sponsons package which is an easier install.

What is it that you really notice in the sponsons? What makes it worth the 400$?
