Looking to install Lowrance GPS And VHF Radio On 2008 Speedster 150

Hey guys, first post here I think! I picked up a 2008 Speedster 150 a couple weeks ago and love it, took it out for the first time yesterday. Now to mod it

Looking to install a Lowrance HDS-7M Gen 2 Touch if possible in the Speedster - a chartplotter/GPS. Has anyone installed one of these in the boat before? Im looking for installation pictures of where it could me mounted etc. Also wondering if the dash area is strong enough to drill through if I put the mount there? Any other tips/tricks?

Also installing a Standard Horizon GX1700W VHF Two Way Radio, any help on this one?

    Thanks!

    Matt

Will you be on inland lakes or coastal areas?

Both, but mostly the Pacific Ocean.

Consider a VHF radio with built in GPS and DSC (Digital Selective Calling).

The GPS inside the VHF radio is for emergency communications. DSC radios have a special red button that sends an automated SOS message complete with your current GPS coordinates. The DSC radio also has a unique code that corresponds to your boat info and description.

So with one emergency button push (and zero spoken words on your part) the Coast Guard immediately knows where you are, what your boat looks like, and your name. They will still attempt to contact you via voice, but having all that info gives them a real head start if you really are in trouble.

The DSC radios with GOS can also share their location info with other people who also have DSC capable VHF radios, so you can easily and accurately send your exact GPS location (digitally) to someone else with a DSC radio. DSC has other cool features, but this gives you an idea.

Correct, the GX1700W I mentioned that I have to install has GPS built in along with DSC.
