    Racing 2000 XL 800!

Alright guys, I have been talking with a few guys and am going to head down to Nor Cal the 25/26th of April and race in the Novice 800 Class. I know this ski is not the ideal race ski being so big, but its what I have right now and I am new to racing. I want to get into the sport and figured I would start! What can you guys suggest I do to increase the hole shot and top end speed of this thing?? Do I want any type of aftermarket sponsons?? Any info would really be appreciated!!

Well, first step would be to make sure the motor is healthy. What is the compression and what RPM are you getting at top speed?

Motor is healthy. Compression is even across the board at 110. Top speed is right around 50. I am going to go out this week and collect all of this exact data to use as a start for comparison! I am trying to get info on the best setups, what works and doesnt work, etc.

    Ride Plate
    Intake Grate
    Solas Impeller

These are some items I am going to try and pick up this week. What are you guys running for grates or styles of ride plates? I almost thought about making one of my own with some carbon fiber I have left over from another project...

110 is fine for rec riding but too low for racing. You'll want to freshen up the top end to be even kind of competitive. At least try a different comp gauge. You want at least 120psi.

Don't buy anything until you baseline your ski. GPS mph and WOT rpm with aftermarket tach.

What are the rules/rulebook that list what you're allowed to modify?

From my understanding, as long as the engine doesnt exceed 800cc, any modifications are allowed. I will get another gauge and check the comp, get some baseline numbers and get back to you guys.

Make sure you get a rulebook in writing (paper or online) then we can go there on what mods you can do.

I know! It's my first race and currently the only skis I have are XL's. I'll be in the novice class obviously, and yes, probably the only one there with an XL 800!!! But what the hell, I have to get started somehow and once I get the hang of it, upgrade to a designated race ski!

Most of the skis in this class hit the low 60's from what I'm told. The old XL might not do 60, but I can ride alright
