    possible 900sl buy???

So last summer i bought a 96 sl700...Followed the advice here replaced fuel lines/oil lines/ filters/ fuel gauge float/plugs/ rebuilt carbs oem kits.

Had a great summer on it good little rig..however it needs a new wear ring or prop and they arent cheap.

So looking around and i found a killer deal on a 96 sl 900...Now i know very little on this machine other then when i was 10 ish so 18 years ago my dad had one and it was so fun. Anyway this one is in mint outside condition, 130 hours and gauge even works.

The bad he says it may need stator or ecu...He said little later tho that he boosted it and it ran for a few minutes and that its had the stator stage 3 upgrade??

the price is very good, and condition is good and im fairly handy, also need something to sorta keep up to my buddies auquatrax r12.

So is the 900 horrible? unreliable? think its worth the risk?.....do you have to 100% remove the motor to do the stator if that is it??

    thanks guys

The 900 is no more or less reliable than any of the other Polaris red motors. I had a SL 900 and its a fun ski.

It would be a ton easier to pull the motor to do the stator. Its really not that hard to get the motor out. I can do it in about an hour now after having done it a few times.

    Welcome

The SL900 is a nice motor, smoth running and quite quick. Rated circa 110hp or so, just a bit less than the 1050 and 1200 motors.

Sounds like the failure prone original ignition has already been updated to the Gen III version.

Until you can do some diagnostics we would only be guessing what problems it might have. Could be as simple as a weak battery or a failing LR voltage regulator module. These ignitions really need a strong battery.

Wear rings and impellers are not expensive. You could have your impeller refurbished by Impros for around 100 bucks. Good as new. A new wear ring would run about 160 bucks.

Boosted it? Is someone making turbo or supercharger kits for the domestic engines that I don't know about?? Interested!

Boosted as in a jumper pack to start it.

Means battery is discharged and will most likely not produce spark when cranking. Red engines need atleast 10.6 volts while cranking to start.
