    MSX 140 Project !

Just got back from Delaware, picking up a complete 04 MSX140. I now have 2, the blue/black 03, and this one is red/white.

Both hulls need some love. Nothing major wrong with them, but the gelcoat is faded. I'm planning to build one up with custom gelcoat similar to how I did my TXi. I need to figure out what colors I want to do. First thought is gloss black top and bottom like Polaris was going to release the 150 in for 2005. I could also go crazy and do orange or something. I've wanted one of these skis for a number of years now, and I have about $1500 into the pair, so I'm not afraid to spend some money.

With that said, I need to pick a hull. I know the 04 is supposed to be lighter, but does that make it better?
Obviously I can use the 04 rideplate, and glove box (I read 04's worked better), but I only want to spend the big $ truing and coating one hull. Suggestions and input are very welcome here.

With that said, is there a market for the hulls? Whichever hull I don't use, I don't plan to keep. I'd like to sell off a lot of these parts and recoup some of my expense. As it stands, the 04 is complete with an unknown engine problem, and the 03 is a complete basket case. I did buy another engine for the 03, but it needs a new cylinder.

Did EMM tuning change between 03 and 04 or are they the same?

This will be a slow moving project as the wife wants to move and I don't want to get too deep into this just yet, just to pack it all up.
Oh - and NO, I don't want to do a rotax conversion. I like the smell of 2 stroke early in the morning

    Begin phase 1 - planning....

The 2004 MSX 140 hull is lighter then the 2003 primarily in the nose, so it plows less at low speeds and needs less pump wedge angle to cruise at high speeds. Weight difference has been quoted or estimated in the 35 pound range, but I have no specific data on that point.

The 2004 MSX hull also has a revised step under the hull. Larger step allows quicker transition to on plane. Dunno if it affects high speed results.

Someone sprayed expanding foam inside. Uugh! Can someone explain the bracket that is holding up the siphon lines? Is that supposed to be there?

From Mark Baxter himself. Somewhere in the 40lb area I guess.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Q. What is the difference between a 03 MSX 140 and a 04 MSX 140?

    A
. The 04 MSX 140 is 45 lb. lighter than an 03. Polaris also changed the step in the hull and the ride plate has more degree of kick at the end.

Do the 04. A little more speed to be had there.

That bracket is supposed to be bolted to the resonator. I wonder if its installed backwards.

Yeah I ended up seeing the bracket in the owners manual. I think the resonator just isn't bolted up.

Is there a way to remove the cover over the exhaust outlet and let it flow? I'm thinking it would need some sort of outer trim ring to retain the assy. Thought I saw one on a Matrix...
