    98 wverunner 1200XL pump drive issue

    I I have a 98 1200xl that has been very reliable. Replaced the impellor and housing 3 years ago with no issues after that. I had it loaded down with 2 teenage girls on the back while towing 2 on a tube. The pump quit working. Waited 15 minutes and drove it with just me and it worked. Probably some bearings overheated in housing where the coupler meets the engine but unsure. Any good advice appreciated.

    can you be more specific..a pump that "stops" working typically has a major easy to see problem.

    so what actually happened?

    Maybe possible with 2 on tube and 3 on ski the front of the ski was so high the pump got starved along with a worn impeller.Like NMPETER said, too little info, just guessing.Trying to sort out the cavitation on my ski myself right now.

    Engine would only rev and had no pump output (jet pump) pressure. Jet pump pressure returned at idle. Idled into dock with idle engine speed. After I unloaded everyone from ski. I took it around the dock area and it accelerated and ran fine with just me on it.

    pull the pump out and check the splines... probably worn enough that it would "strip" with the extra load

    usually the intermediate shaft splines go first, then the pump splines
