Thread: j pipe cutting?

    j pipe cutting?

    i remember a old thread on here about cutting the end off the j pipe like 1.5 inches,i never got around to it and cant find the thread to get exact length to cut and whats the reasoning behind cutting it?thanks

    so what does cutting it do?i have a tdr greenbox,i also just saw another old thread where you said drill holes in jpipe to a 1/8th?

    Cutting the J-pipe gets the pipe off the floor of the waterbox,therefore eliminating a hot spot...In OEM form the j-pipe only sitts about a 1/2 inch off the bottom of the box..With baffles in the box its ok cause you need the pipe down lower to push/force the water through/around the baffles..With a gutted box such as your greenbox,there are no baffles so the water gets forced out fairly quickly..with little water sitting on the bottom,and the pipe only being a 1/2 inch off the bottom it creates a hot spot which will eventually cause the box to blow out.....And yes i stared to open the holes up to about 1/8 inch..this allows for a little bit more water to enter the box to help keep it cooler since the baffles are removed..
