    FZR fishfinder/GPS install

    Hi everyone.
Thought i'd do a quick thread on where i mounted my LOWRANCE Elite 5 and the RAM mounts i used on my FZR.
I used RAM mounts because the side cover is on too much of an agle for my liking and wanted to straighten it up.

There's not many places to mount ff/gps on the FZR, i had to put it on the side cover.
Now, this isn't such a strong piece of plastic. So once i worked out where i wanted it, marked out the mounting position of the RAM 2.5" base and drilled out the 4 holes, i cut a piece of aluminum to fit to the underside for extra strength. I also applied silicon adhesive to aluminium before fastening the RAM base.

I opted to hull mount the transducer as i didnt want to drill into the rear of the hull.
There was a PERFECT spot down near the drain hole. It's a fair stretch down there, i had to remove the rear seat assembly so my arm would reach. (Ask manufacturer whether transducer can be mounted in the hull or not)

I ran the transducer and power cable up through where the existing dash cables are. Up through the rubber grommet.
Used a very small amount WD-40 as lubricant so they'd slide through easy.

You can see where i drilled a small hole, about 20mm, for the cables to come out of. Will put a rubber grommet in soon!
Also removed the foam inserts while i was at it so the S/C can suck more air!
When i'm not using the gps unit, i can tuck the cables towards the front of the ski underneath the hood.

RAM 2.5" Round Base with the AMPs Hole Pattern & 1.5" Ball: RAM-202U
RAM Short Double Socket Arm for 1.5" Ball Bases (Overall Length: 3.5") Product Number: RAM-201U-B
RAM Quick Release Adapter with 1.5" Diameter Ball for "RUGGED USE" Lowrance Elite-5: RAM-202U-LO11

Hope this may help those with an FZR

Is that transducer rated for in-hull mounting?

Is there some epoxy or other material filling the gap between the hull and the transducer?

Have you water tested this installation?

I called Lowrance Technical support, and the transducer IS rated for in-hull mounting.

I used a two part epoxy. Pushed down and twisted to get rid of any air bubbles in the epoxy so i dont get a false reading or noise from the hull.

I have tested it in the water. Works great with no issues.

Does ur elite 5 have down imaging? If it does I guess u can't use it since u installed the transducer in the hull

Yeah it has downscan imaging. Works fine with in hull mount. Which is surprising
