    GP1200R ring gap

    Afternoon everyone,
Rebuilding my engine over the winter here after a failure of #3 hole last season. Had the cylinders done at Millenium and at their recommendation and my concern that I would have to wait till almost July for the PRO-X piston kits, I went with Wiseco forged pistons. My question is that Wiseco bases their end gaps at .004" per inch of bore and Yamaha states in the service manual of an end gap of .018" to .024" as their spec. I'm guessing I should go with Wisecos' specs but wanted to touch base with the experts who have run these pistons in a stock bore.

Thank you in advance for any help.

If the rings were supplied by Wiseco, I would use the specs they recommend. They know and test the thermal expansion of all their alloys.

Very good point, thank you very much. On to assembly and pressure test.
