    2001 Virage Twin SBT Motor

I put in a SBT Twin motor in my Virage I have about 7 hours on the motor. I got the compression gauge out just to check it getting 118 on both cylinders. I know it should be 145 do you think I got a bad motor from SBT the old motor had 460 hours on it and the compression was higher than 118. The starter is going out do you think that could affect the compression? It does not seem as fast as it was with the factory motor. Thanks

Lower compression will affect cranking speed. I have Heard that SBT does lower compression in their motors to make them last longer. How was it running in the ski? If its running good i wouldnt worry about it. I have an SBT 1200 in my Pro 1200 and it runs great.

Cranking speed can affect compression readings.

    Weak starter and/or weak battery.

Different gauges read different, sometimes a good gauge will change with age and then give different results

My starter is starting to die not turning the motor very fast. When the engine starts it sounds good, Ill replace the starter and check the compression again. Took it on a 50 mile ride last Saturday ran but noticed the starter was s not working right.

Also try holding the throttle wide open when you do the test
