97 XP Fails, Rebuild using new parts

    97 xp

First three-4 hours were fine, same set of plugs, looked normal.

Today, two sets of plugs, this set has about an hour on them. Went wot for 5-7 seconds and let off back to cruising speed then started making noise as if it spun a bearing. I haven't had a 2 stroke long enough but I work with 4 strokes ll the time. It hardly spins over unlike It used too. Melted piston?cleaner plug is the rear cylinder, looks like it was lean to me. Thoughts? Still running oem mixer, 93 ethanol free gasoline.

First things first... Do a compression check on both cylinder with the throttle lever wide open. You might have melted a piston..

My eyes aren't the best but that certainly doesn't look lean to me; and certainly nowhere near piston melting. Be interested to see what the comp numbers are.

Did you check the crank or counterbalance shaft when you did the rebuild?

Melted piston from to lean, not seized any more, guess it was siezed due to heat. Rod bearing failed also.
