Took on ALOT of water, large space, Gap between carbon seal and support ring.

Hi everyone, First ride of the year was almost my last one for the season. After an hour or so of riding I noticed perhaps a quart of water in the engine compartment with the engine running. After shutting down the engine for a sun tanning break I was surprised to see a few gallons of water in the engine compartment!
I immediately started it up and wasn't able to go more then 3000 rpm or 5 mph. After 5 minutes of slow go to shore the engine opened up and felt normal again and took it up for a 5500 rpm cruise back to dock. I'm assuming something was stuck in my impeller as there were some branches poking out of the grate.

Anyhow, I removed the air intake to have a look at the Carbon Ring and support ring and behold at least a 1/8 space between the support ring and carbon ring thus letting water in with engine off?

Has anyone come across this and is it a wear and tear in which everything should be replaced or is a Bellows issue in which it lost it's elasticity?

I'll attach pictures of the carbon ring and support ring space or gap.
Greatly appreciate your opinion for a corrective measure. Thanks

I would replace it all, including the c-clip that holds the hat on. The bellows does lose rigidity and can become soft. Does the aluminum piece feel like it is still tight? I am guessing the c-clip has come off and the hat slid back. I just had it happen to a buddies ski.

Hi, the stainless steal support ring is tight, it won't move back or forth or turn loosely around the driveshaft. I did replace the impeller with a solas concorde, it felt like it engaged properly by spinning it with a flat head screwdriver while pushing it in to the spines of the driveshaft when I bolted it up. Can the drive shaft be pushed back further into the engine if the impeller is off the driveshaft splines and bolted back? The neoprene around the jet housing is perfectly flush and sealed.

I just pulled off the jet housing and the carbon ring to support ring spacing or gap is gone. I wonder if the newly installed solas concord splines are not machined deep enough creating pressure which pushes back on the driveshaft when bolting it up causing the separation. Or perhaps I put too much grease on both the driveshaft and impeller splines? Can too much grease cause this missing space for the driveshaft to enter, it came off with a good loud POP!

    What year & model ski?
What prop model did u use?
    Did the prop come loose?
Are the Engine mounts still good? how many hrs on them?

Pull the floating ring back, and make sure the clip is there. Report back when all is checked.

    Its a 2008 seadoo speedster 150 215hp
A newly installed SOLAS CONCORD STAINLESS IMPELLER SRX-CD-14/19
    Prop did not come loose
    115hrs on the engine mounts
Haven't visually looked for the c clip yet, need tool, very tight now with jet housing off.
Can damage occur to the PTO bearings if the driveshaft was pushed back further then normal?

It will damage the thrust bearing in the engine. I am not sure about those boats/prop combo, but it sounds like the the prop it too far forward. Possibly wrong one or not fully seated. I would look into that if it came back to tight when the pump was taken off

I packed tooo much grease inside the impeller splines to driveshaft splines coupling. Manual says apply grease generously. I removed a lot of grease, emptied the impeller spline end, left a good amount to cover all splines surfaces and it went in much easier and doesn't show a gap anymore. I hope it didn't cause any damage, I'll kick myself in the arsssss.. Thanks

DON'T overgrease the driveshaft and impeller splines! I really hope it didn't do any damage to the engine.
