    Action cameras

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place for this post but I assume it will be adjusted and moved by the admins if need be. I am looking to see what everyone suggests for an action camera to get some footage of some pwc riding/boating/ATVing etc. I don't want to go over the top with price but also know I will need to put some money in the pot for a good one. Let me know your thoughts! Maybe post some links to people selling the cameras or whatever, anything will help. This will also help others looking for cameras too. I haven't had time to look up threads on this so I decided to make one, and like I said if it needs to be moved that's just fine!

    Thanks!

Can't go wrong with a GoPro imo.
Set the standard. Easy to resell. Tons of accessories.
Entry level is all I would think is needed.

There have been a few useful threads posted, some from last summer and over the fall/winter. Search for Sony, as the Sony is considered an interested alternative to the popular GoPro series. Garmin sells the Virb models.

There are literally thousands of different models of these cameras being sold in the world.

Post links here to the useful threads you find

I sold my GoPro stuff last year. I will be looking at the newest Sony models but have not made any decisions yet.

Tip: Think about the camera mounting, as that is critical to creating compelling results. RAM aftermarket mounts are well regarded.

GoPro sells a bunch of mount kits but there are also many aftermarket sources for 'GoPro' mounts that may not be of the same quality.

I have the newest GoPro black model, but if I were buying today I'd get the Virb elite black edition...Can't beat it for the money under $300 and it had 1080p video, built-in GPS and a small screen built in so you can see what you're doing...

Have the latest GoPro Black and the 1080P Sony with GPS. Love the sony over the go pro. The GPS overlay option is great, it takes amazing video and battery lasts longer than the GoPro. Also the sony camera is easier to operate and the wireless controller has a video screen and can switch between multiple cameras.

I have 2 of the Sony and 1 Go Pro. I am going to probably pick up the new Sony 4K version next (Just wait till I can get one on sale or thru one of my Gov/DOD discount programs) The Garmin VIRB units are also very nice, but I do like the sony a little better

I just bought one of these. I already have 2 go pros. Great deal and a better camera than the new Hero.

Id say gopro, reliable, easy to use, lots of a accessories, but I've seen a few videos recently with gps built into the video which is cool as hell for jet ski videos
