Thread: Limp mode?

    Limp mode?

What RPM does it usually drop it to when it puts itself into limp mode. First time I took it full throttle today it hit 8100 no problem. Second time it got to 7k, check engine light came on and as high as it would go is 7600. I have heard if the oil is a little too high on the dipstick it will throw the light and do this, is that true. BTW it's an 06 challenger 180. When I did the oil change it was reading right in the middle of the bends, but today when I checked it afterwards, it was a good 1/4" above the top bend.

7,600 RPM seems too high for limp mode.

Yes, 5K is the highest limp. You have some other issue, need to find out why you have the check engine light.

Too high of oil level will limit your RPM, but will not throw a check engine light.

The reason that a too high oil level limits RPM is due to the fact that these are partially-scavenged dry sump engines, which means the lower-end cavity for each cylinder has basically no oil in it. This is because the oil at the bottom gets pushed up via blowby through a vertical tube that ends about at the level of the high mark on the dipstick, and the ends of these tubes drain down to the main sump. If your oil level is too high, it covers the end of the tube, then the lower-end cavities cannot drain the oil. The big ends of the crankshaft have to labor thru sloshing oil, which limits your RPM.

I am going to order the Candoo pro kit here in the next 30 minutes. Does anyone know where the diagnostic ports are on these? Idk if seadoo has them on all 4tec models in a general location near the engine or every model is in a different location. I looked and saw that Candoo was local here in NC and I was like .

Bad fuel maybe, knock detected and it backed off.
press the set button 5x and it will display why the check engine is on if it has a set button.

I finally found it tied up with the harness hiding under the Mpem. I'm going to zip tie it up to the harness at the Mpem for easy access.

I wish my boat had a digital display and I could do that lol. I had even thought about doing a swap to the digital display when I first got the boat but I then was informed that you would have to buy a new harness and have some $$$ laying around
