Best way to split the housing on a stock SC on 260 engine?

What's the best way you guys have found to get the Supercharger housing apart? The manual shows a plastic hammer (after removing the bolts of course) but after fooling with it a little earlier, it seems like its going to take a lot of beating which I don't want to do.

There are tabs that can be used to pry the halves apart. they don't line up with anything but I found that a square shafted long screw driver or similar will do the trick. Lever the halves apart by putting the screw driver under a tab and on one of the bolt hole flats. Once you've split it even a little it's simple from there, they just wedge apart.

You just need to break the initial seal. Then it's easy.

There isnt 2 tabs on the newer SCer housings like the older ones...

I take a rubber mallet and stick it into the dis charge tube and work it free that way....you may need to apply a tiny bit of heat to help weakin the silicone...

I'm sure mine had at least a tab? Thats why I said they don't line up with anything. I'll have to check sometime.

Correct, they have 1 tab,The one on the front cover is gone....Why they removed it i dont know BUT its not there anymore..lol...Thats why i figured i let him know the 1/2 drive socket wrench trick wont work on his charger...He can try to tap it apart..it may or may not work..Thats why i just use a plastic handled mallet in the discharge tube....

Well, now I know why I couldn't find the tap arrangement to use the 1/2 drive wrench. I did use a combination of all of your methods. I hadn't read Snomans idea but I did find that a carpenters "Pigfoot" is exactly the right width when turned flatways to pry the two upper tabs next to the outlet. Some tapping on a plastic dowel against the tabs and some varying prying got it apart. The heat gun is a great idea - probably would have came right apart if I had tried that.

Now, I see that I will need to be very careful not to get sealant on the inside area when reassembling. It looks like there is a spacer still attached to the back engine side half. I don't see any need to remove that - right? Any tricks on sealant applying?

    Thanks!
