    Gasoline octane info, minimum recommended?

so i bought my sl 700 last summer, not knowing to much about it i assumed like most 2 strokes it needed 91 octane....i know my 600 triple polaris sled took 91 with the same compression readings. Most 2 strokes ive seen and owned needed premium then this winter i read on here it only needs 87. Can someone confirm that and as to why?.....i ran it all summer on 91 is that an issue? is it making it run worse or?

    thanks guys

the ski will run on 87, yes yes it will, the issue with 87 is that most stations it has Ethanol, this was not an issue when your ski was built..but in todays world almost all gas has ethanol, you want to stay away from that if possible for the ski, around me, most 91 octane fuel is Recreational fuel, and contains NO ethanol. so i run 91 in my skis.

89 with ethanol is minimum. Higher grade will not be harmful to your engine.

we run 87 all the time in any of our stock ski's an in 17yrs never burned one up and we even run it in our stock 785's so I don't see the problem with 87 that everyone makes a big deal about

I ran 87 ethanol free for my first years. No problems. I mainly use 91 now for the extra safety margin, and 91 ethanol free is easier to find. The other reason I personally use 91 is so I dont need all kinds of different fuels sitting around for my different skis

I run all my fuji engined skis on regular 87... which all has ethanol these days. They all run fine... with good wash patterns.

I run premium-only in my standup and MSX 150.

    Cheers!

I have been running 91 and adding a few oz of seafoam to each fiil up for the past two years on both the sleds and skis after using 87 once in each.

Borrowed a Indy Trail Sled to the neighbor and he filled it with 87. I had a hell of a time starting it each time until i refilled the tank with 91.

I put 87 into the SL650 and stalled on the lake and had to get towed back in.

Changed back to the 91 and have not had a problem on either.
