    Older ecu's internal battery?

    I have an 05 rxp motor in my conversion and it keeps thinking that it has a depth finder and compass. This has happened in the past after winter storage with the battery removed, and I assumed it was normal. Just reset it with candoo and it was good for the season. Now it's happening every time I start it up after a candoo reset. 5 times so far in the past 3 weeks.

    Other codes that I force, like unplugging a coil stay reset. Do these things have an internal battery that can go bad? Or is there some other place I can check? It's an 05, built in 04, and has almost 250 hours on the ecu.

    I don't care too much about the codes, just don't want to have the thing crap out on me and leave me stranded.

    Those settings are actually in the MPEM up to the 06 model... Not the ECU... In 07 they moved them to the ECU.

    Interesting. Thanks for the tip. There is a code for the can bus communication or whatever it's called but the candoo says to disregard. Maybe I need to dig deeper. Any advice on where to check?

    like all flashable memory, there will be a limit on how many times you can write to them. Not aware of this issue, but I have heard about the disconnected battery and the inability for the 05's to retain memory. When a fault is detected, it will load fixed code from a read only memory and use that.

    I would check the charging system for stray ac due to a failing rectifier..that kind of electrical noise can glitch the computer and make it run home to mama for default values.

    you could always add the depth finder and compass... right<ducking>
