    WTF do you think happened?

So was on a 10 minute ride. Everything perfect. Spinning 9000 RPMs. I slow down to a little above idle, hit it and I get 2 short hits on rev limiter as hooks up then 5 seconds later P0545 comes on. I kill the ski and this is what I find. There were no over temp warnings, as I said had been running strong and hard for 10 minutes. I never heard ANY noise that sounded like a backfire. My thoughts were broken valve or valve spring on exhaust side. Any other ideas?Click image for larger version.

    You overheated the waterbox.

The reason why you didn't get an exhaust overheat warning is because the sensor is shorted (P0545). Could alse be wiring is shorted.

Pull the waterbox temp sensor and use an OHM meter and see if it falls outside of spec. It should read between 2280 to 2736 OHM (at 66 to 70F degrees air). If you tell me how hot the air is when testing, I can give you specific OHM to look for.

Maybe you sucked up some debri, and clogged the water flow to the exhaust.

Lack of water flowing into the WB and most probably sensor damaged and or wires to the sensor are burned through. The exhaust tube is clearly blistered also indicating a lack of water.

You have more issues than just an exhaust overheat.

The tube on waterbox looks blistered now do to heat. I put motor on hose, and all lines were clear. I took them off and ran them into tupperware containers and no debris at all. The waterbox and exhaust lines were running fine. It happened so fast and looks so severe. Yeah I think the sensor fried with the waterbox. If waterflow was fine (and I cant see that it wasnt) you think a bad exhaust valve could do this?

No. It would have run bad. Just because you did not find any trash does not mean there was none. As everyone has said, your kind of damage usually comes from lack of water to the exhaust.
What year ski, and what mods?

What year, model and mods is a very good question! Just because you think it is ok on the hose does NOT mean much. The SOURCE of water is typically different than the hose depending on year and model.

Also looks like a Riva WB.
