Is the timing chain tensioner supposed to make the cam chain really really tight????

I bought a 2002 gtx with the engine in the box/disassembled (timing chain failure). Finally getting it back together with a new chain (OEM Seadoo). Does the factory tensioner put a lot of tension on the chain?? I can hand thread it until chain is tight and it still has .300" more to thread in. Seems excessive????

    ANY thoughts??????

I have done a few and all were very tight. The hydronic tensioner needs to bleed oil out to get it the rest of the way in nicely. Just thread it slowly.

Look down the end of the tensioner. You will see a ball. Press this in while cycling the tensioner in and out to bleed the old oil out.
