    Repairing or refurbing CDI boxes

Just curious if anyone has attempted to repair a previously bad CDI box? I've got a pair of 4010379 boxes that are bad, and I'd like to take a shot at seeing if I can get them fixed. The main questions I have are:

1.) Does anyone know what the common point of failure is on these?

2.) Has anyone ever attempted to open one up?

3.) Does anyone have a wiring or electrical schematic for them?

4.) Do you think repairing them is a simple as replacing a resistor or IC?

Perhaps with some brainstorming we can save us all some money on our broken units.

I think Harris at fichtemmrepair.com has repaired these. If i remember correctly he said he can only do the red potted cdis. He is the only one i am aware of that can do this.

    Just sent him a message.

Edit: Just spoke to Harris on the phone, really knowledgeable about the boxes but unfortunately he doesn't repair them. Said once they toast, they're done. Components inside overheat and take out the processor chip and everything. Said the best bet to get one one now is from John at Mario Motor Sports in Minnesota.

Sbt is probably your best bet for a new cdi.

Saw them, they want $400 a box on eBay and their site. Their part number is the 1st gen CDI box for the SLX 1200s (4010379). That guy in Minnesota is selling the 2nd gen (4010543).

I personally prefer the 379 timing curve over the 543. The difference is only the timing curve. If you are hell bent on a 543 i can sell you one for 300 shipped.

Do the SBT CDIs have the PVL made in Germany markings on them? I know Marto has authentic PVL CDIs. (PVL is the OEM)

    Cheers!

The SBT CDIs and coils are PVL. The stators are not as far as I know.

I'm suprised this thread hasnt been attacked yet.....

back on the subject, quite possibly just a component, but quite often companies will get a 'dedicated' IC made just for their particular product, and sourcing it, or even its pinouts becomes mission impossible.
Getting the sucker apart and removing the potting if hurdle #1, always wondered how they do this
