What is that thing on the front of old ships called?
Sorry, this isn't a quizz to win the Porsche....Doh.
I have tried a variety of search terms for that wooden maiden sculpture that was on the front of old ships but not getting image results I was expecting.
Does anyone know the proper term of that piece? I think it may also have been a mermaid or something, just not sure.
Thanx in advance.

I thought it was called the PROW.

google images search....
figurehead gives the best results... but it would appear PROW is very very closely related in some way Jeff C. Something like a peak or outward point to a structure, house, ship, etc... got me.
i tried doing goggle searches for pirate ship bow sculptures earlier with no luck... lol ... figurehead hit the nail on the head

Just in case anyone is interested this is also where the term "head" came from for the restroon on a boat. The bow is where the crew went to relieve themselves.
