    S/C drive gear play

Got around to installing my S/C and noticed there was some play at the drive gear when manually turning the impeller. S/C is flush against the engine.

Is this normal or should it be a tight fit?

Are you saying you can turn the supercharger impeller while the SC is installed in the engine?

yes the impeller shoudl click back and forth if you try to turn it, the gears are not meshed really tight, thats why you have the play, normal.....

Backlash.................. The space between the gears. If there wasnt any space the gears would eat each other.

    Thumbs up Thx!

i c. Thanks for the reply. It was the backlash that I was noticing.

Greenhulk, I was able to turn the wheel slightly while installed in the engine. It takes a little bit of pressure, but it also moves may be an inch or so.

    Thanks for the quick replies!

An inch ? Thats not right. Thats not backlash, somethings wrong. Backlash is just like slight to barley any movement back and forth.

If you are turning real hard on the impeller you are actually spinning the engine due to the reduction gearing of the SC.
