Nice thing is I have two new bearings sitting on the bench I need to get some seals though. I had found the engine out of alignment before the last trip out and fixed it so this is the result of that previous condition. I did notice it started making a whirring sound towards the end of the last outing now I know where it was coming from.

    Bill,
this was what I was seeing many moons ago, with just atf in there. I went with the 50/50 gear lube and axle grease. Never had a problem since. I can't tell you how long it last, because I've never lost a pump since.

Nice! Make sure you polish the seal surface with some 600 grit before putting it back together. The washer that goes behind the prop has been upgraded by Yamaha to a SS piece with no rubber outer. I think it helps keep pressure off the seals. Also when installing the seals pack them with water proof grease, especially inbetween the two.

Mark, I bought the amsoil grease and gear lube to make the pump mixture. I believe I read some old posts of yours on this. Anyways I used this in the 05 pump upgrade I did last month you can bet I will do it here also. This was running the original Yamaha grease in it.
