    General Prop/Pump Question

What can be done to prevent impeller and pump wear from sand?

I took out my pump and there was sand in it from 80 hours of riding. The impeller blades were basically sand blasted on the outer edges of each blade.

I'm going to have the 15/19R prop and the SS wear ring. I only ask these questions because this combo is not as cheap to replace as the stock parts.

There's not much I can do to avoid the sand because of the lake I have a house on. The lake floor is sand around my dock and at a sandbar where I occasionally visit.

I attached 2 pics of my stock prop in effort to show what I'm talking about. I don't know if the texture difference in the blades contributed to my stock RXP being slower than others by 1 mph+. It could just be the 1300 ft. elevation I was riding at. I have no way of knowing though because I didn't get GPS readings til 50+ hours.

    Stan, thanks for the help

I can't see it real well but it could be cavitation marks.

What was the peak RPM's you saw? Unless you had excessive clearance due to a bad wear ring, I dont think that prop would hurt you. Unless the edges are shot. It just looks like its polished up to me.
I dont think sand will hurt a SS wear ring anyway. (I could be wrong)

I saw 8100 solid almost always. One day in particular I remember it went down to 7950 but other than that it's been consistent.

I have two other questions: My stock prop cone was stuck to the drive shaft when I popped the pump off. Does that indicate it was off the prop before I removed the pump or did it just stick to the shaft because I removed the pump?
And what do you do to ensure the cone doesn't come off while riding? (besides removing it permanently)

It probably came off before. Make sure the threads are clean and blue loctite it on. When I had mine on, thats what I did and it held, for 30 hours anyway...

Pictures suck but that prop doesn't look bad for 80 hours. Maybe file the leading edges to clean it up and next time send it to impros to have the edges built back up.
