    little help for new guy

guys a fellow skier had had #3 seize on his 03 13r.
his dealer fitted the d plate and chip but he does not run a e.f.i unit as he was told he dont need one .(think its the cause as i ran mega lean without one)
can you yes or no me weather this would have caused a seize,no comp on #3......
he was running yam lube (purple ish colour but now says he runs gold stuf) ..
any input will be good as going to travel a long distance to have a look and spanner for him as he is lost and trust for dealer has gone...

No you do not need a controller with just a D-plate.

Hell, the non-US models dont have catalytic converters in them because they dont have to meet the emission standards. The come with a Yamaha factory D-plate.

did he have the bottle filled at a yama dealer or did he purchase this unopened? he may have purchased some other oil ( don't know which would be gold colored ) in a similar bottle otherwise the filled it with the wrong stuff.

WFO-All the efi gpr's from 03 onwards-US based or exported have cat con's.
The export Gpr's with the d-plates were the 00-02 carbed GPR's.
    Hope this helps.
You still don't need a efi controler with a d-plate though!
The only ' (edit, I forgot to put the word gold in) GOLD Yam branded oil I have seen is their 4 stroke stuff. Perhaps that's why it seized!!!

Didnt know that. I had "heard" the non-US EFIs had D-plates

I saw a non-US model 03 GPR with carburetors last summer.

    Figure that one out.

Sounds like he doesn't have a clue as to what oil he's using. 4 stroke oil in a 2 stroke?

he has no clue at all,and holds his hands up to it...
but if i can help him out i will as i know many would me on forum if i was in the same position..
he said last night on phone its a yam bottle, and says yam lube,so i went to my local dealers and looked at the 4 stroke engine oil and it sure looks the same at a glance by way of container marking...
he is ringing me again today so we can meet up to have a look...
    thanks guys...
