Thread: First ride!!!

Well got out on the water today for the first time on a GP. WOW
It almost ripped my arms off, I went into the first turn and cut it a bit sharp, into the lake I went. haha My sandles were floating, but my sunglasses didn't make it
I'm use to my XL760 and man this thing pulls way harder than that ski and turn on a dime. It's crazy. It pulls so hard out of the hole and I'm sure it gets up near top speed in a few seconds. I love it!!!
I took about an hour trying to tune the carbs to get the best RPM's and smooth throttle response. Ended up getting to about 6850 on the tiny tach. I don't have a GPS yet so no numbers yet.
I'm going camping next weekend so I'm going to try the Riva cdi then to see what kind of a difference it makes. I think I ended up at like 1 5/8 LS and about 5/8 HS. I never messed with the pop off, jetting or N&S since these carbs were on my engine when I got it. I figure they should be pretty close.

Sweet!!! Nothing like putting a project in the water.
Give us some #s when you get a chance.

Cool, did you break it in or did you take RPM readings on the first tank of gas?

I only ran about a quarter of a tank so far, the wind was starting to come up... I didn't really feel the need to break it in because I didn't change anything internally, the engine is the same way that it came to me, I just took it apart and cleaned it up, put in new gaskets and seals then slapped it back together.

When I took the 97 out last weekend I was waiting for one of the rookies to wipe out, shouldnt have warned them about turning.
Last wipe out I was in the superman position just North of 60mph.
Only time I ever did on the 99.
Its good to get out bet you were tired of waiting.

Looks like I may have to invest in a GPS. I was going to borrow my friends but he has went back to work for a few weeks... I'm going to put in the RIVA cdi this weekend and see if it makes a diff on the tiny tach, it was pulling about 6850 with the stock cdi...
