92 sl 650 boggs at high speed

I was checking out the engine while on the trailer connected to a garden hose. It seemed to bogg at higher rev and I noticed gas soaking and coming out of the air cleaner ( Ocean pros ) on the number 3 cylinder PTO. I took off that air cleaner and the middle one and gas was spitting out the top of the carb, but the middle carb was dry. What do I have to do to fix? Why is this leaking gas? Thanks, Jerry

Most likely damaged, broken or missing reed pedals on that cylinder. Pull the carbs and intake manifold and inspect.

Gas spitting out the carb usually indicates a bad reed valve. Maybe it's time to rebuild the carbs (middle carb seems dry) and you can inspect the reed valve at that time as well.

Do I replace all 3 reeds or just for that cylinder? Also how do these carbs work, I thought this carb was'nt shutting off gas like a stuck float.

To fix one, you'll have access to all three, so check them out too.

No floats in watercraft carbs and the reed valves act as one way valves allowing fuel and air mix in, but not out, of your motor. If they are missing or broken, OR, even just fail to close completely, you will experience exactly what you're describing. Check out this thread and read post #7...
