    MSX 150 charging problem

OK, need some help from the pro's. Cleaned up the MSX 150 3 weeks ago and sprayed the engine compartment with T9 spray as I have done for the past 2 years and put it away. I went back down this past weekend and had to charge the battery to crank it but didn't think that was a problem as I have had to do that before and it would charge itself back up while running then good for whole weekend. I took off from dock and ran about 5 minutes before battery light started flashing then all guages went out and shortly there after engine died. I figured (hoped) that I only needed a battery so I borrowed one from cousins ski and charged it for 5 hrs on slow charge and put it in mine.

So off I go thinking just battery problems but 1 hour later battery light is back flashing and then engine dies again.

Question is: did I get two bad batteries or what else could be causing it not to charge battery while running and what should I check for ?

While the engine is running what are the charging volts to the battery?

check the fuse after you see if the unit is charging.

It could be your voltage regulator. It is located on the front of the motor under the intercooler. I seem to recall talkiing to Jay about this and he told me that he has seen a problem like this before. It is a bit of a pian to get to but I would definately take a look.

OK, here we go. Put tester on battery before cranking and it reads 12.24 volts---then after cranked it reads 11.60

So you have 11.6 while the engine is running?
If that's the case you have no charging output and need to find the problem.
I'd start with 4stroker's fuse theory. I have no information on the 110 or 150 so hopefully one of these guys can point you to the fuses.

the fuse is located in the rear of the boat near the ecu and main relay(brown box) and is in a splice box(small plastic case) it is a 30 amp fuse and if you are not charging it is more than likely blow. do not just replace the fuse and go. replace fuse and test the output of the charging system. should be putting out 13.5-14.5 volts dc. if it is more than that the voltage regulator is bad. we have them in stock and ready to ship if you need one. we package it in a kit with bolts and bracket. hope this helps.
