Did you fill up the hole and drill a new hole or just use that to hold in the insert.

So I repaired the hood last night. Using my dremel, I opened up the hole a little bit and ground down any cracks and the paint to get good adhesion. So far it seems to be a good repair. We shall see!

I also happened to look down my carbs and noticed the carb gasket squeezed out on all 3 carbs....dammit! I had to order some new carb gaskets from Cometic. I'm glad I saw this now because that was a huge air leak for sure.

I also forgot that my steering cable needed some work. The rubber boot had a hole in it that let water inside. I had an extra cable that I'll be using but I wanted to have my old one as a spare. If you ever need to lube your cable, here is a trick I found online. My spare cable and even my old one now are as smooth as butter!

Little more done today. I let the epoxy cure for 2 days and used some touch-up paint to cover it up. Hood is installed and the insert appears to be holding so far...

Just waiting on a couple of packages to come in. Lugs is sending me a new drive shaft, UMI steering stem and a trim motor blockoff plate. Cometic is sending me new carb gaskets...

Electrical is all done...pipes and water lines are all done...need to reinstall the carbs once I get new gaskets and install the waterbox.

I'm planning on taking off a few decals and compounding the entire boat. The Polaris decal on the hood is coming off and I'm replacing it with a plain white Polaris decal like on the 2000 Pro 785s....definitly like that style a lot better. Some of the others will probably come off too.

Can't wait to get this thing in the water to test it out!!

Good solution! Ended up finding a Polaris one on eBay but I'll keep that in mind for the future.

I also found a company that sells the boots and have a few coming in for the handlebar end of the steering cable as well as my manual trim cable. I don't want water getting in either cable again!

The Polaris decals came in....can't believe I found these being 17 years old! I think it will look good on the boat considering the ones now are a little dinged up.

I found these at Cycle Parts Warehouse. Of course supplies are limited!
