    96 HX restoration (build)

Well its winter again and I have picked up a 96 HX to restore.

It is a basket case but it looks like everything is there. I measured the cylinders and they are stock bore. Previous owner said it needed a top end. I am going to do a complete rebuild and put this thing back together. As you can see from the pic it needs quite a bit of work. I would like to know from you all your opinion. I am leaning to doing a stock machine with some aftermarket body additions.

    ENGINE:
Should I restore the engine back to stock or since I have it apart should I put in a 787? Modify the 720? Any other pics of other builds you may have done or advise on what you would do is appreciated.

    Body:
I have quite some time to work on getting the gel coat back to a decent shine. Can you tell me how to get the best shine out of this gel coat? Wet sand? Just rubbing compound? I am going to go with a aftermarket seat cover and mats. Any ideas what would look best?

Do you know of anyone that has pics online or possibly a thread that may show what needs to be done? I have both 787 and 951 cases and cylinders in the stock room here that I could use.

I found this old thread online that may have me re-thinking that 787 or 951.

It claims over time the extra weight of the 787 will crack the hull. I may just mod the 720.

Can you show me how you mounted the engine?

Are you running a stock 787?

    Looks sweet!
