That will work. But there is a slightly more expensive kit that has the slug or blank off (whatever you want to call it) that fills in the void of the missing oil pump gear. It is to keep crankcase volume as close as possible to stock. I cheated and ground the teeth off my oil pump gear with a bench grinder and created my own slug, to use that exact same kit.

Did you install the kit without removing the carbs? do you really need the plug/shaft

My engine was out, so no. Not necessary for the plug, but recommended.

    Installed.

It may be overkill, but I like this kit.

Can I get by with just the plate and use the oil pump shaft as a plug?

Noooooo!!!!! You, need to pull the old oil pump shaft out. Aling with the spring. You can grind down the teeth on the old shaft, then install it. But to not leave any teeth on it.

Ok so let me get this right...buy just the plate...remove the oil pump...grind down the teeth on the shaft...reinstall the shaft and cover it up with the plate??

I just want to make sure because my buddy just smoked his 785 this week end and I don’t want to be next

Be sure to seal the cover so you don't have any leaks.
