Cool may have figured out my speed loss

i have only been turning 7850-7900 rpms and the gps speed in my signature for sometime now. i figured it was my prop even. everyone told me to check the oil level and prop. i checked the oil twice and got a good reading. today, i go and check the oil again and it seems to be way to high. i am in the process of extracting it out. can this be my missing 300-350 rpms?

No doubt about it stealing at least some of those RPMs...I bet you'll be back to normal now!

hopefully ......that whole turning the ski on to operating temp then idling for 30 sec then turning off and waiting 30 sec gives you a really shitty reading it goes half way up the dipstick.....anyone habe any other suggestions on accurately checking the oil level?

all i wanna do is break 70 and ill be a happy camper with a VERY reliable ski

That is exactly my problem right now. Im running the same rpms and I have the same problems checking the oil. Oil is half way up the dip stick. I am going to buy a pump and take a lot of oil out and see if I can get better readings. Oil was changed by a dealer and I have only put about 3 hours on it since. I think it could be almost a quart high. Someone has got to be able to help that has had this happen to them.

Oh and no one has been able to suggest anything better to check the oil. My guess is take some oil out and the readings will become more clear.

I just visually checked my wear ring and there doesnt seem to be any problems there but I didnt take it out so I could have missed something. I still think it is the oil.

You can't visually check the wear ring. I think the clearance upper limit is about .15 inches, I was at .14 and noticed a 300 rpm drop.

I like to have my oil at or slightly below the bottom bend when cold.

Flip your wear ring first if you haven't done that yet. Then you get double use out of it.

You're supposed to warm the motor up a little before checking the oil. Make certain it's level. I always check it on the water so I know it's level, run it 30 seconds, wait 30 seconds, remove dipstick, wipe off, put it back in, take it out and see where the level is. Works for me.
