Rotax Racing 158 degree thermostat
I gotta say, this is one of my favorite mod's so far and it's one that i thought would be the most waste of money. It runs 30 degrees cooler than the stock one and I have noticed absolutely NO heat fade these last two days. It has been over 90 degrees here too. I remember last year with those temps i was plagued by heat fade.

I am thinking this is my next step Hulk. I like what I am hearing about it. How about the ease of installation compared to other mods???

Well, it's a bit of a pain. You have to drain all the coolant and it has about 5 hoses you have to pry the oetiker clamps off and remove the hoses. I went back with the much more user friendly gear type stainless hose clamps. The mod is definately worth the trouble.
You also get the benefit of cooler engine oil resulting in longer oil life and less viscosity breakdown.

I disagree with Green Hulk on the install of the 158 degree thromostat. Its not a little difficult---ITS DAMN CRAPPY. I heard myself say four, five, and six letter words I never knew existed, First I had to remove all the stuff i had installed in the last several months---rr intercooler--PPG exhaust pipe--supercharger. And then those damn stupid hose clamps SD uses. To the guy that invented them---may a heard of camels take a lunch break on your front yard. To the guys at SD who authorized there use--you need to go to work for the Iranian army. Will try it out tomorrow. Hope it was worth it. Later.

I agree about the oetiker clamps. Taking the first one off is no problem. But there is nothing worse than being tired and at the end of taking the engine out only to find that little MF'er holding a hose to the fuel rail. The savage nature my removal that one should have been the subject of a Friday the 13th movie

Does the thermostat help at all with speed or acceleration or is it a heat fade thing ?

In 80-90 deg. water, fully warm motor, is our radiator (ride plate) able to keep the coolant temp 150?

Should the coolant tank be insulated with reflectix or does it get hotter than the air in the engine compartment ?
