Lowell considering ban on all jetskis

The town of Lowell is considering banning jetskis in the town, in particular on the Merrimack River after two fatalities this year. One of the fatalities was DUI related.

that's pretty funny. You cannot prohibit a single class of vessel on navigable water. They city doesn't own that river, the American people do!

The river is the concern of the state police marine patrol if I recall.

Best to get active, as they will try a whole bunch of other things once this BS restriction fails.

Ya without a doubt they wouldn’t ban boats if these were boating accidents. Where I live I see just as many unprepared/ novice/ stupid boaters as I do jetskiers. Really I think a big problem (in my own observations) is that no police/ coast guard/ etc are at boat ramps when launching. They could easily call out anyone who doesn’t have life jackets or looks like they don’t know what they are doing. I have my boaters license but I don’t think MA requires it. They should probably make it mandatory.

While safety is the cornerstone of boating, banning jetskis is not a solution. The guy that got into the accident was under the influence.... don't see how banning jetskis will stop being from OUI. That's just common sense recklessness. A better solution would be having more police patrols and having police stationed at the close by ramps.

I've seen both jetskiers and boaters in my life that have no fucking clue what they are doing with total disregard for safety. This ban doesn't fix the problem.

Nobody has challenged this with the agency that manages waterways?

Make sure every boating or sailing accident makes the news at the least
