Still no spark on the general, need help.

Well pulled a known working cdi from the SLT and put it in the General, still no spark. I did recheck the resistance from the stator and every thing is with in spec, with new stator. Did a ohm check on the coils and compared it to the SLT all were real close. So I am at my wits end and need some help to figrue out what is going on. The old stator was bad. Did it mess something else up??? What dose #5 and #6 do? Other than regulating the charging volts? Anything to do with getting this beast to start??? Is there something I am missing???

Did you check the start stop switch / lanyard?

Edit: it will crank with the lanyard off, but not start. It doesn't get spark when the lanyard is off. So I'd check it.

Have you checked the kill switch? Maybe it's stuck or grounding out? Did you install the grounds inside the box?

Maybe you did damage #5 or #6 in that pic when you shorted it. Not too sure on testing procedures for them.

I am having the same problem with my 785, can't get no spark. Like something is wearing down the battery when I try to start. Battery is new, just seems like something is stealing all the juice and it can't fire. I'm ordering a new regulator and starter solenoid from 4stroke tomorrow after he makes sure he has them. I will let you know if it solves my problem if you don't fix yours before I do mine.

The starter solenoid would be part 16 on your pic. The regulator for mine is just one part where yours shows two, but I assume it does the same thing.
