    bad running SLXH

I decided to go to premix and in removeing the oil distributor I found is was only held on with 1 bolt the other was missing. Would this cause and air leak into the case causing it to run bad.

Depending on how loose it is possible.

I don't think it should matter if the oil pump hardware is loose, well other than the fact it may not have been pumping oil correctly.
The engine is sealed at the other side of the flywheel via the plate/seal assembly.
I know when we assemble and test them for leak down, the cover, flywheel etc. is not even on the engine.

No, air can't get into the cases through the oil pump, if the crank seal is good. Water could get into the stator and cause it to fail, however.
