Thread: Motor---Driveshaft alignment
05-31-2007, 12:37 AM #1
Over the weekend I will be putting the motor into the boat and have a question.
1) Is there anyway to check the driveshaft----motor alignment without the specific tool? any tips?
1a) if so, then any certain way to align the motor when i torque it down?

You really shouldn't take the short cut and "hope" it will align O.K., the possible damage and expense, lack of riding time etc. is not worth the couple of bucks on a rental fee for the correct tools now.
If you opt to run without aligning the engine you can at least try this test.
With everything back in and torqued to spec, see if you can slide the driveshaft back and forth with the bumpers out (at each end of the driveshaft). If it slides back and forth there's a reasonable chance it wont bind and start taking out the impeller, driveshaft and/or a coupler.

I definately agree. I was just wondering if it was possible without the tool but now I know it isn't; any suggestions where to rent the tool from?
Thanks for the help
