Pros and Cons of 1200 GPR

Just picked up my 1998 XPL about found out how delicate the 951 engine is.

Mechanic suggested the Yama 1200 GPR. I know nothing about them. I need to know pros and cons.

    Thank you

a disadvantage would be storage space, when wanting to ride 2 up, for the day or whatever

The one gripe I have about a stock GPR is the holeshot is god awful.

Pros: HULL, HULL, HULL, and did I say HULL

Some pesky cons on a stock boat, but can be remedied easily:

OEM Powervalve retainers (slip out and cause valve to drop)
    fix: Waveeater clips

    Wide Seat (ergonomic issue)
    fix: get use to it

CAT CON (can crumble and break apart in exhaust)
    fix: D-plate or O-plate

    Holeshot (kinda weak and sluggy)
    fix: Jetworks Mod holeshot kit

Intake grate; Dangerous (can cause pump overstuffing and danger when letting off throttle at (W.O.T.)
    fix: Aftermarket grate

Factory RPM reading (inaccurate bar graph display)
fix: Aftermarket tach; i.e.) Pet-2100 / Tiny Tach comm.

Fuel Flapper Door/Screen (can casue fuel flow to get restricted)
    fix: remove it

Oil injection Lines after 4-5 years (can slip off and seize motor "lack of lubrication")
fix: Remove and go Premix or install new lines

YPVS Servo Motor failures (electrical failure)
fix: replace or go gas valve

    Pros:

    Great Handling Hull; very predictable

    Stronger Hull

    Easy to work on

    Affordable Vs. 4-stroke

Parts still available and in abundance

    Upgrade to 1300 easy

Lots of room for horsepower improvement & performance

Lots of technical support for this platform on this forum.

    * I know the cons outweight the pros on my list, but don't take this literally, the cons can be easily fixed and this can be a very reliable machine !!
