    Unhappy "MORE" gp1200 problems

    Hey Gents and maybe Ladies......

Well further to these events... detailed here..http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27247

    Hmmmmm Where to begin..????

Ok got the ski out this afternoon along with a couple of friends, both with 04 gp1300's..

Anyhow get this gp1200 of mine, hence forth know as the "PITA"...

So me, my friends and the "pitA" are having a good time, I'm happy thinking cool rebuilding carbs ain't all that hard..???

then around twenty five minutes or so into this good time, my bud was bombing along on the pita...
when it lost power then chucked it..??? didn't see or here this as i was on his gp1300r..
Anyway i see him stopped in the middle of the loch and think, whats going on over there then..??
Bomb it over he says... it just lost power then stopped.. he then fired it up..
it sounded rather sick kind of 2 cylinderish (not a real word..??)

Anyhow I'm now wondering whats happened...???? what do you gents in the know reckon..???

Will i get away with just a piston and a hone/re bore..???? yeah i know i doubt it too..!!
Too scunnered to tear it apart tonight or even tomorrow..

No doubt it all related to my carb efforts with the aforementioned "PITA"

OH YEAH i should mention i let it cool down cos the sucker was mighty hot around the cylinder head..
then thought I'd nurse it back to the slipway.. its NOW locked tighter than a beavers A-HOLE...!! what a day...

So today's lesson is:- keep smiling life is good...!!!

All you guys that're going to mudbug have a blast.. wish i was going too..!!!

    Cheers Gerry...

Its a pretty nice place to go.. apart from all the damn jet-skiers... he he he..

SO back to the pita.. i'll be expecting some crapola on the plug/s by crapola i mean piston..!!!

Definitely need to get the spares from your side of the pond through..!! they're big $$$$ over here..

thanks for the rapid replies guys, always encouraging..

    cheers Gerry...

    X 1 million....

Ok decided to have a look at this gp1200 of mine tonight...

started with the plugs... #1 = looks good, then thought OK.!, I'll try #3 next = looks good too... Hmmmmm...???
Ok then lets try #2...!! Ah....!!! i see some metal flakes on the spark plug,
Think OK maybe I'll get away with that piston/hone combo i was thinking about yesterday..??
Next lets get her heid aff i'm thinking.. HOLY-SH!T..!! #2 piston looks like a freakin silver muffin,
with big juicy aluminium raisins on top..!!

Also the cylinder head in #2 dome looks like a golf ball that been blasted with fifty shotgun rounds..!!! NOT PRETTY..!!!!

Moving on to the bores #1,#3 look and feel perfect,. #2 not that badly scraped.. thinking still it could be worse..??

By now a little over an hour later the engine is out and on the deck..!!
so proceed to pull the barrels off, not too much of a fight..??
boy oh boy is this piston SCREWED..!!! Pretty much the entire skirt is gone...!!! .....GUESS WHERE..????

Yup into the crankcase.. thats why it was looked up tighter than that beavers a$$..???

TO be more precise into the crankcase and back out the side of it...!!!

Also managed to knock a chunk of the bottom of the # 2 bore.. not sure what the tails of the bore are called..??
the one in front of the boost port..??

SO in sumary the #2 piston and bore shot to sh!t.. #2 boost port thingamyjig gubbed.. bottom of crankcase knackered..
Crank likely shagged also..?? heid blasted to hell and then some..??

REMEMBER boys keep smilling.. i'm still trying..,???

AH....should add feel free to donate to the cause..particularly if you keep stubbing your toe on an engine you have lying around..???

YEAH maybe not. but i will be looking for bits FROM NOW....!!!!!!!!

    cheers Gerry..

    FLYING SCOTSMAN......
You're a long way from where you started out eh..???
so a blue nose...??? blant'uR is full of them..!!! personally ah've nae interest in fitba ma'self.. BUT..???
twa brerr's the same tae.. weird thing is ma sis is NUTS for the tic..???

Yeah Mate i wish you could pop in an lend a hand with this pita..???

some goods pics there bud, the one with the pose down looks like you could've ruptured something but cool anyhow..!!

Not really sure how i see this fecker at the moment.. its worth just going on ZERO as is..!! agree..?? jocks don't want broken sh!t..!!

so selling it like this = waste of time..!!

just wonder if a set of cases and a piston, hone/re-bore.. sort out the head..
skim it down say 60thou, some cone f/a's primmer kit (its always been a whore to start) maybe move over to premix..??
rebuild the carbs... RIGHT this time..!! or if possible source an engine or parts..

Probably just wait and see what comes up for sale i think.. hate wasting dough..!!

oh yeah how long you been out there then..????

    29 years here.
You may be able to get the cases welded and find another crank
Cylinders could be resleeved or bored biger depending on size and condition.
A used head and a piston should be easy enough.
Carbs need looked at again and when you put the motor back together leak down test it.
What size bore is it and what type of piston.
If you have a hone see if it will hone out.

my older bro is a welder by trade to... Knew that Monkey would be able to pay me back one of many dozens of favours one day.. ya beauty..

sh!t even that bit off the bottom of the boost port could be welded back on i'd imagine..
the big Cheezy is coming back..!!!

I can get a piston nae sweat...!!! Right next trick is take some pictures, and let the guru's say what i do next..?!
