    pump check

Any tests I should run when I pull the pump out to replace the impeller? I've been reading about the '03 composite pumps fail from flexing. Can't wait for my Solas to arrive from Green Hulk

Unfortunitely, SD was replacing those pumps under warrantee to the 04's due to pump flex....you probably have missed that window of opportunity though

Bob, you should also replace your wear ring along with the impeller.

You should be seeing your impeller and tool on Monday.

    Thanks again!

gtxsc03: you might want to look into swapping that plastic pump out yourself, either calling around to see if any dealers have a used on laying around or, ask here in the wanted forum, it would be worth it in the long run...PR...

It's a pretty expensive swap. Jerry helped me get a parts list for doing my brother's 2003 gtx sc. take a look at your wear ring, you'll find one side really worn and the opposite not even touched. Sucks that he missed the window!

if your pump is flexing, very frequently your pump cone grease will get contaminated... take the 3 allen bolts out of pump cone and check out the grease. if it looks milky and nasty.... well, that sucks

Unfortunately, I bought these skis used, abused and out of warranty. One impeller and wear ring is chewed up pretty badly, sucked up a lot of rocks and sand on the river. I'll try the freezer on the other one. Will have two new wear rings tomorrow and definitely going to check the grease while its apart.
Thanks for the part list, I'll hook up with JD1 on that.
This'll keep me busy for the weekend!

    pump apart

Well, I pulled the pump today and the inside of the vanes are chewed up from sucking rocks There's uneven wear from side to side (.009 rt side, .025 left, .012 top, .015 bottom. That's on the old wear ring and impeller. Would the chunks (approx 1" wide x 1/2-3/4" deep) missing from the vanes be enough to replace the housing?

Or you could purchase a skat magnum pump..

Sorry you missed the "boat" on the plastic pump swap...You will eventually have so much flex in your pump it will eat wear rings in mere hrs....Best bet is to get the alluminum pump after the next wear ring...Otherwise you will be spending $$$ on new wear rings that you could have spent on the new pump..

I haven't installed the new wear ring or impeller yet. Been looking at the Skat Magnum. Can't find prices on new one, any ideas?
