    Pump tunnel reinforcement? JD1?

Dan, you mentioned in another thread that your pump tunnel disintegrated on your 80 mph RXP. I won't hit that speed, but I know a lot of us will be getting closer to 80 mph this year, and I wondered about our pump tunnels. I know many of us reinforced the tunnels on our GPRs too, seems like the faster they go, the more they tend to split and crack. I imagine it is due to the pump cavity getting overstuffed possibly due to the speed and how much water is getting in there at high speed, more than the pump can process maybe.

Is the hull by the pump tunnel area double wall or single wall? I just wonder if it would make sense for us to try reinforce that area inside the hull, and if you had any ideas or input on that due to your experience?

Got it, thanks Jerry, great thread. Is that area double wall or just fiberglass directly onto the carbon thing? Is there any reason to grind it down first, or would it work just as well to just lay up more fiberglass over what is there?

Vern, i think its just single wall. The reason i put the grinder to it first is to give the new fiberglass something better to stick to. Just scuff it up a bit!

If you find yourself getting close to 80 then look into doing this.
