Ok ready for timing key.... finally

So I have the TB off and on there way to Ross... and I want to do the timming key why I wait for the tb to get done... Im pretty intemidated by this.... Looking at the manual Im not sure I fully understand how it comes apart... I have searched on the forum and cant see much on how to remove flywheel other than everyone saying to be careful of the oil pump... should I remove the oil pump? Does anyone have any picture of the process? or pictures of the front of a motor, that is apart? Im going to attemp this in the ski?? (for the time being) any advise would be great! days like this I wish I lived in a "sunny state" where there was people to come over and drink beer and tell me how to do it

    Thaks in advance!

You are best off to go ahead and remove the oil pump. I didnt and broke my pump. I did my key while it was in the ski. I didnt take pics so I cant help there.

I didnt have much info either but you can do it. Once you get in there and take the exhaust off it becomes more clear what needs to be done. You can leave the exhaust manifold on but you need to remove the rest up front.

The front two motor mounts need to be removed and the two in the rear at least need to be loose. Keep an eye on how the shims go that will come out with the motor mounts.

You will need a flywheel puller or a harmonic balancer puller and some "red locktight.

OK thanks Im going to pull the front half of the exhaust tonight... do I need a special puller or a "universal one"? I guess it will be a learn on the fly thing Best way to learn I guess.

Great pictures! So does the oil pump mount on the two bolts on the front of the cover? Do I need to remove the front cover from the ski or can I push it to the side? Again thanks for the pictures it looks a lot easier than I thought...

Yes, oil pump mounts to the 2 bolts on the cover and the support bracket for the pump cable is above that. All are 10mm bolts.

You have to remove the bolts for the front 2 motor mounts and slide a support under the engine, then remove the front cover bolts and then you can put the cover to the side.
Be aware that when you remove the cover there is a washer and spring that may fall out, it supports the end of the starter.

go to autozone a barrow a steering wheel puller. you can return it when you are done

Don't buy the Island racing keyway. you might have 1 degree, you might have 3. their is play in it, and it's not as accurate as the Fernando Key way.

    Get the fernando keyway.
