How long do the 4-tec engines last before needing a rebuild?

I have 2006 Sportster with the 155HP N/A engine with no mods and I was wondering how long do the 4-tec engines last if they are maintained properly from day one?
Is it possible to get 10 years out of one of these engines before a rebiuld is needed? Thanks for any info...I only use it 6 months out of the year.

iv'e heared of people getting 999 hours off the 155hp rotax and still going strong. without the charger and cooler there almost bulletproof, regards bill

Thats in a Jet ski though right ? Id imagine the engine ina boat is gona take a lot worse of a beating. But im sure the engine will still last a very long time as long as its properly maintained. It's all in the maint, treat it right and it will treat you right.

regular oil changes and proper anti-corrosion treatment and i think those 155HP 4-tec motors will be out and running for decades to come.

Normally, a ski is a much, much, much more brutal environment than a boat.

I also have to add that if you have prior SC failure in a SC boat or ski, even though the engine may have been cleaned out correctly, I feel the engine is doomed and short lived, I think we all can agree to that!...PR...
