Major engine troubles - please help !

Well, this is my first ski, and it has been a nightmare .... I've had it out 3 times, the last of which I had to row it back to the trailer (thanks dude who sold it to me and said "oh ya - it's solid")

So, here's what the shop is showing me and is telling me. There is no way I'm paying for a bunch more labour on this job. I just wanted them to put it back together (and not even fix anything) and THAT alone is going to run me $600.00 - I just spent $500 right before this !

this is bit from his e mail ...

"Here are the pics I mentioned to you. As you can see in the photos, there are lots of rocks in the cooling system. There is also lots of corrosion from salt water visable inside the head cover. Some of the cooling ports were jammed with bigger rocks and one of the rear cyl bolt heads is broken off from a rock hitting it(the head of the bolt is still lodged inside, you can see it)
As I mentioned on the phone, all your head orings are melted from overheating."

I need some opinions on what needs to happen here....I think I'll attempt this repair (pistons and all) on my own (with all your guidance).

Those dome bolts are known to break and clog the cooling rail.
Go get your boat from that shop and Run!

    Clean you cooling system.
Reinstall the inlet screen on the pump.
And if the engine is ok after you fix the cooling system, run it.

Dude - I`m on it. I told him to not touch anything ! These are the same guys that said you have to pull the motor to check the timing (if you remember my other post).

I`ll do it myself - I just need to know what parts to order. Damn - I knew I should`ve paid more attention in shop class (15 years ago !)

    Pull the:
    pipe
    exhaust manifold
    dome covers

Clen everything out, including the inlet lines.

What was it doing? Overheating? Or did it squeek a piston?

Can someone give me a rough idea of the cost involved (parts) to rebuild those 3 cylinders ?

    Pistons
    Rings
    Honing
    Gaskets

    What else ?

    $300-500

Plus wrist pin bearings. Assuming your crank survived.

Have you verified cylinder damage? Don't start ordering parts unless you want to do it anyways.

I took it back because my water manifold was STILL leaking after they replaced the gasket - they obviously put a new gasket in then never actually checked to see if it worked.

They said they pulled the head and what they found is in the pics. All they told me (more or less) was what was in that e mail message. He said they have to rebuild it (on the phone).

The boat screams in the water - screams, runs like a champ (other than hard starts).
