    Piston Meltdown Project

My Son was given a 2001 xlt1200 project with 3rd cylinder meltdown caused by an oil hose that slipped off the injection port. We have replaced the piston, pin, clips, rod bearing, piston, cylinder head sleeve, gaskets, and it's now reassembled. The previous owner obviously ran it hot until the computer shut it down. Now when we try to start it, the display reads W.Temp and we get no spark to the cylinders. Need advice as to how to reset. Tried disconnecting the blue connector under the front hood and doing a code reset, but get the same W.Temp and no spark. Engine turns over nicely but no start. Need advice!

    Welcome Doug.
Taking a wild stab at it, there is 2 temp sensors on the exhaust pipe, and one or both of them are not working correctly or the wire is damaged.

Thanks for the reply. Son just got back. He'll check it out tomorrow, although to me it just seems like a re-set issue, but this is a totally new machine to me. Nicely engineered except for the fuel injection lines and the wire ties that hold them on!

    Just curious...

that engine does not use a sleeve. It is nikisil coated bare aluminum. How was the cylinder repaired or replated...?
