High compression, how to get it?

I recently bougth a 1996 slt 780 for $500. It needed a new stator and new crank seals.

But the compression on it is not the best. Is there any way to improve the compression of the engine while I have it all taken apart.

I don't really want to go crazy and get a rebuilt engine.

Welcome to the hulk. Get some new rings, and hone the cyls. It can run almost $100 but will get you full compression again.

Yes piston rings. and honong can be done by a local machine shop. Honing trues the bore and leaves a nice cross hatch pattern that aids in the seating of new piston rings.

id say that whichever cylinder had 125 doesn't need much. On our fully rebuilt 900 we got 130 on all 3 cylinders.
