    Loud Backfire!!

    Hello, I am new to the board and I have a 2004 RXP with a Riva Stage 1 kit and rear exhaust. I also installed a cd player with 3 speakers on it and it has held up for 3 years. It also has a 50hp wet kit nitrous setup and it has all been installed on the ski for about 2 years.
    My problem has been that late last year the ski started cutting out while I was driving it and then it would sputter and run crappy and then just clear up and run great for the rest of the day. It has progressivly gotten worse and this year would hardly go above 50mph while cutting out the whole time then all of the sudden it would take off like a bat out of hell and hit 70mph on the speedo.
    I tried the obvious and sent the supercharger to Jerry and he replaced the washers and bearings so I put the superchager back on and now it won't start. It tries to start and then when it fires it dies. I have good spark and the fuel pressure is correct. Then I was turning it over today and a huge backfire happened that about blew out my hearing. It was not the nitrous because it was not hooked up. Any ideas?? All plugs are plugged in and I have triple checked everything.

    did you do a compression test on your cylinders?

    sounds like 1 of the 3 coils is bad, can cause intermitent prob. like u describe...

    here here, that may be the problem, unburnt fuel after a cycle of 4 stroks then the bad coil refires, you'll get a good bakfire,ps check all your exhaust clamps for tightness and the j pipe clamp, good luck

    Compression was good on all holes. How can I tell if its a coil and does anyone have any extra ones laying around.

    If u are going to wrench/diagnose ski yourself, pick up a spare coil, u may use it more than u think

    Just thought of something, what was/is the plug gap?? wider than .032 or so S/C and nitrous, u get high cyl. pressures....spark won't jump the gap,energy still in coil though....can and will cause problems. Please tell me u only use the spray to get to speed......
